Report a Concern to Inclusive SDSU
SDSU is actively working to ensure our trans and gender expansive communities are properly acknowledged and included. However, we understand that there are instances where this is not the case.
Many individuals consider the use of their legal name over their lived name as deadnaming. Deadnaming can occur when a person, or system, refers to an individual using the name that appears on their legal document, instead of referring to them by their lived name.
Further, misgendering is defined by The Pride Center at SDSU as the act of using the incorrect language or pronouns when referring to an individual.
To improve efforts, we encourage members of our campus to provide feedback and inform us of instances where individuals’ gender identity and lived name are not being properly honored.
How Students can Report Deadnaming and/or Misgendering
Once updated through my.SDSU, an individual’s lived name or gender marker, or both, should appear across all campus systems, barring a legal necessity for a legal name. Unfortunately, individuals may continue to see their legal name be used and populate across campus when there is no apparent legal necessity.
To report deadnaming or misgendering on campus, fill out the Inclusive SDSU form, and include the following:
- When filling out the form, in the section titled “Narrative,” include text stating Addressing Deadnaming at SDSU or Addressing Misgendering at SDSU.
By including either phrase within the “Narrative” section of the form and information surrounding where you were deadnamed or misgendered, Inclusive SDSU will be able to provide the adequate response.
It is strongly encouraged to report each incident of deadnaming and/or misgendering through an individual form submission to ensure an investigation into all incidents and IT systems are carried out, as applicable.

Discrimination, Harassment or Retaliation
To report discrimination, harassment, and/or retaliation (DHR) of any kind, you may report the incident(s) via the DHR Report Form.
SDSU will determine the necessary action that appropriately mitigates issues concerning the use of lived names, remaining transparent with the reporting party and other identified stakeholders.
