Mentoring

What is Mentoring?

Definitions

  • Mentor: An experienced individual who acts as a sounding board, coach, and supportive guide for a mentee towards achieving goals.
  • Mentee: A relatively new individual who is coached, supported, and held accountable by a mentor towards achieving goals.
  • Mentoring: A one-on-one, mutually beneficial, learning relationship between a mentor and a mentee. Both work collaboratively to define goals, develop strategies, and seek resources that will ultimately expand the mentee’s skills and knowledge towards achieving those goals.

The keys to a valuable and productive mentoring relationship are:

  • Willingness to listen and learn
  • Active partnership
  • Collaboration
